Robert, I'm really thrilled you wrote that comment. It leads perfectly into today's topic, which should be posted soon (I'm trying desperately to make it fun by including some video but I might have to put that aside for today and just shoot for plain text).

But -- just to keep you intrigued and coming back the answer to your questions are, in order:

* Just about any solo or small firm lawyer (or Big Law too, but they need a different approach that I don't teach)

* The ones you specifically target (and yes, I teach how to do that in the ebook)

* Just about every practice area, yes -- certainly all the ones you mention.

I hope that's enough to entice you to check back later!

Maybe I'm reading too fast and am not giving it enough time yet, but I don't get how blogging brings in clients. Who are we talking about here? What kinds of clients? Is this a universal solution for all kinds of practices, whether business, bankruptcy, personal injury, divorce, real estate????

Hi Amber - thanks for commenting. I agree - Talian's a great theme. You're also right that I now believe it isn't a conflict with the upgrade, but something else at work.

Unfortunately, the problems were just too numerous -- severe float issues, misaligned unordered lists, and a whack italics style that wasn't even italicized. It's good to know about the UTW conflict, but I had deactivated that awhile back when I installed the All in One SEO pack, so I'm not sure that can be the explanation for all these problems.

I did, in fact, leave a comment for the developer, and to his credit he responded pretty quickly. Unfortunately the fix he suggested didn't work to resolve the worst issue (the float problem), and I just couldn't afford the time to go tinkering in the code myself.

Since there are a great many wonderful free themes for WordPress (one of the continuing themes of this blog, in fact, along with "don't fuss too much over the way your blog looks - just pick one and be done with it"), I figured the better part of valor in this case was to pick a new one and be done with it.

Thanks again for stopping by!

I like to know which version of talian you are using? Talian is a great theme and perfectly running with version 2.3.3. You might have dropped a mail to Steve, he might have fixed those issues.

If you are using talian with UTW (Ultimate tag warrior) it will conflict as latest version does not support the UTW.

Just to clarify, would you prefer glossy print magazine style ads because they're easier to ignore or because you gain more useful information from them than the Problem/Solution essays in the eBook?

Keep in mind that magazine ads are interspersed with content, not placed in a section by themselves as we did with Problem/Solution Guide. We did that because we're confident they have enough inherent value that people will seek them out on their own.

Neil - thank you so much for the comment. I appreciate the correction and will update the post as well.

You are correct (obviously) that the blogs do have links in the ebook. I guess my comment was really more directed at the "nature of the beast" - print/PDF vs. actual-blog-itself - and what the former is capable of contributing to the discussion about blogs and their worth/value. But, as the recent "debate" (ah, don't get me started) about ABA's Blawg 100 proves, folks have an inherently hard time talking about "blogs" and "value" in the same sentence to begin with.

Is there an "answer"? I'm not even sure there's a real question here. Just an observation. If there is a question, it must be "how do we get the word out about blogs, to lawyers-as-readers and lawyers-as-future-bloggers?" You were (I think) aiming BlawgWorld at the former group, whereas I aim at the latter, so that alone might account for the differences.

And - I recognize I might be in the minority here - but yes, I would have preferred glossy ads. Those are easily recognizable as such. And while lawyers might not be as susceptible to puffery as many consumers apparently are, I like transparency. Of course a Lexis/Nexis worker is going to just looooove Time Matters. But ask a solo or small firm user about TM and you are very likely to get a much different story. (That's a made-up example, I hope - I didn't remember seeing a TM ad, and if there was one, my use of it is wholly coincidental. Please don't sue me, Lexis.)
